Healthfirst NJ and Reach Out and Read
HF NJ Host Special Reading Event at Zufall Health Center in Dover, NJ
On Thursday, July 28th, 2011, pediatric patients of Zufall Health Center in Dover, NJ had a special visit from Senator Anthony R. Bucco and Assemblyman Anthony M. Bucco for a reading event made possible through a Healthfirst NJ and Reach Out and Read NJ partnership. The partnership promotes childhood literacy in New Jersey’s communities by providing access to reading materials in local healthcare facilities. It also enables Reach Out and Read NJ to donate age-appropriate children’s books to Zufall Health Center for distribution to families and children during scheduled pediatric visits.
The elected officials, along with Terry Byrd, President of Healthfirst NJ, read the classic children’s books “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” and “Goodnight Moon”, among others, to a room filled with children from toddlers to age 5. "Healthfirst NJ is a proud supporter of literacy programs and resources that increase early developmental learning, promoting the health and well-being of our children,” said Byrd. “Together, Healthfirst NJ and Reach Out and Read NJ will help children to realize their potential and enables the donation of over 20,000 children’s books to communities throughout the state. We also thank Senator Anthony R. Bucco and Assemblyman Anthony M. Bucco for their support of this initiative.”
