NJ Family Care/Medicaid
The NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid program is a federal and state-funded health insurance program created to help New Jersey's uninsured children and certain low-income parents and guardians obtain affordable health coverage. It is not a welfare program. Healthfirst NJ offers the NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid program to eligible New Jersey families residing in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex and Union counties who cannot afford to pay the high cost of private health insurance.
- Who is eligible for the NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid program?
Children 18 and younger may apply for the program, as well as certain low-income parents (see link to grid below).
The income eligibility level for children's coverage is 350% of the federal poverty level (FPL). For example, children in a family of four with a monthly income of up to $6,432 could be eligible for coverage. For parents, the income eligibility level is 200% of the federal poverty level (FPL), or $3,675 for a family of four.

- Plus, Healthfirst NJ also offers free health programs that offer education, prevention and outreach services.
* Healthfirst NJ FamilyCare A, B, C, and D members receive mental/behavioral health services through the Medicaid fee-for-service program by using their New Jersey Health Benefits ID Card. Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) members receive these services through their Healthfirst NJ plan.
